The charges presented against the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno on their face constitute a cause of action for misconduct, the presiding bishop’s office has held.
The Bishop for the Episcopal Office for Pastoral Development at the national church offices in New York has written to the attorney representing the complainants in the Bruno affair stating that the charges presented against the Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno on their face constitute a cause of action under the Title IV Disciplinary Canons. The Rt. Rev. Clayton Matthews on 23 July 2015 stated the charges leveled against Bishop Bruno, if proven to be true, were actionable. The matter will now be passed to a panel for investigation and review. The determination by Bishop Matthews that a prima facie case had been made is not a finding of guilty under canon law, but the first step in adjudicating the issue.
